Day 6 – Puente la Reina

Steven’s sister Nancy, and her two close friends, Rob and Jamie, all from San Diego, joined in Pamplona, to walk for 6 days with us. Today was our first day of walking, covering 15 miles and 1500 feet in elevation gain. Terese and Andrew from Brisbane Australia, joined us for dinner and lively conversation. Terese and Andrew are keeping a very similar schedule to ours, and if all goes as planned, will end up in Santiago a day after we do on October 25.

New Camino friends. (The 3 people to the left of Steven met on day 1 of the PCT two years ago and are having a reunion on the Camino Francés)

In 1937 the repressive Franco regime murdered 92 people, including children, who were part of the movement for the region of Navarra to separate from Spain. This is a tribute to them, set at the top of our pass today, for their fight for “social justice and democracy.”

Spanish lunch with our San Diego friends – Jamie, Rob, Nancy, Steven, & me. First day of walking together and the team did great!
