Day 3 – Santa Andre to Marinhas (19 km)

Photo: Pastelaria Clarinha was worth waiting for! Fao is famous for its Clarinha pastry. It is a “secret” recipe with a sugared squash and egg filling. It was yummy!

I walked 12 km out of the gate with only a 10 minute break on a curb before finally arriving at a pastry shop in Fao, the first services of the day. The first two days of the walk offered frequent cafes and beach side benches to break on and there was none of that today. I walked through fragrant eucalyptus forests and kilometers of beach boardwalks.

When I left my lodging in search of an early dinner I happened upon a religious parade celebrating Saint San Sebastion

I also helped a 79 year old woman find an Albergue to lodge at for the night. She didn’t appear to know how to use google maps and flagged me down as we entered Marinhas. She seemed energetic and smart although it’s unclear to me how she has found lodging the previous two nights? Maybe the old fashioned way – she looks for signs?

I met women today from New Zealand, Italy, South Africa, and France. My housing roommate currently lives in Amsterdam but is from Slovenia. All are women traveling alone.

The bones in my feet and my hip hurt but all bearable I’m happy to report!
