6 Days to Santiago de Compostela

Our 42 day journey ended in Santiago de Compostela on October 25, 2024, at the magnificent, beautiful cathedral there. The last 6 days of walking from Sarria to Santiago were very busy with pilgrims – the number of people walking quadrupled, if not more. This is because one earns a compostela certificate of completion if they walk the last 100 kilometers of a “Camino.” And there are many Camino routes that end in Santiago, the busiest one being the “Camino Francés” which we walked, that goes through Sarria and comes into Santiago from the East. Last year when I walked the Portuguese Coastal Camino from Porto to Santiago, many people joined my walk at Tui, 100 kilometers south of Santiago. This guarantees them a compostela but also gives people, with limited time or energy, the grand experience of walking into the square in front of the gorgeous cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, after a 5-6 day walk, bagpipes and all!

Is it possible? Only 100 K’s left!
Early morning in the lush Galician countryside

Galicia is an autonomous region in Spain that we spent the last 8 days of the Camino walking through. It is green, lush, rainy, and beautiful, similar to the Willamette Valley where I live in Oregon.

Wow, you two certainly look thrilled to be in Santiago de Compostela! Congratulations on walking the whole Camino Frances. I was thinking of you today when we saw the news about the terrible flooding in Valencia. I had to look at a map to know for sure that it was on the southern coast of Spain so wouldn’t have impacted your walk. And then this evening I got the message that you had a blog post of your final days of the Camino :-). I look forward to talking with you in person about your journey.!

    1. Yes, the flooding looks horrendous in and around Valencia! Thank you for the congratulations — it certainly was a big walk. And thank you for following along Priscilla! ❤️💜

  2. Congratulations to you both~
    Wow! 😂
What an ebullient photo of you two at Santiago’s sacred Square.
It will be a difficult year to not be joining the Thanksgiving revelry…the stories!
I hope you’ll save some or be willing to retell at Christmas!

You did it!! No doubt the 10 mile plus walks every day became a normal way to spend your time but it is so impressive to me. Keep all of your memories intact so I may hear all about your adventure when I return from Thailand in December. xo
